Growing Through Education

In IBM continuing to grow through education is key to your success so when the opportunity came up to work with Margo and Roberta from Training Matters I had to oblige! From the very first meeting with Margo I felt so comfortable and at ease – she is a very inspirational lady!

I’m Taylor McGhee and I completed my Supply Chain Management Level 4 SVQ in September of last year. Having joined IBM as a Supply Chain Apprentice in August 2011 I already had quite a vast knowledge of the supply chain – for the first 18 months of my career I rotated around IBM’s Supply chain departments starting in Demand Planning and finishing in the warranty team (which happened to become my full time position).

In IBM continuing to grow through education is key to your success so when the opportunity came up to work with Margo and Roberta from Training Matters I had to oblige!  From the very first meeting with Margo I felt so comfortable and at ease – she is a very inspirational lady!  We discussed my training options and she felt that doing the Level 3 qualification would be my best option but with me being me, I pushed to have a bash at the Level 4 – which I am glad I did.

I had to complete 12 modules from the entire Supply Chain Management course, 7 that were mandatory and 5 that I was able to choose myself.  Completing each module wasn’t easy, I had to think outside of the box to figure out where my current work could fit into each topic but with the help of Margo I managed to pass within 7 months!

My qualification has opened so many doors to me already!  I have been accepted as an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply and more recently, I have been poached by another technology company and will be progressing through my career with them this February.  It just goes to show how putting a little extra work in can go a long way!

I can’t thank Margo enough for everything she has done for me throughout 2013.  Not only has she been there as my coordinator, she has been a friend and has given me invaluable advice!

For anyone who is thinking about starting an SVQ with Training Matters, my advice would be just go for it! You have nothing to lose but plenty to gain!
